Where Mom Wisdom Meets Son Silliness!
Welcome to our wacky world of wellness workbooks! We're the mother-son team who figured out that the best way to help kids with mental health is to make it actually fun. (Revolutionary concept, we know! 🤯)
Once upon a time (actually, during a particularly chaotic breakfast in 2019), a frazzled mom with a psychology degree and her creative son with too many colored pencils had a simultaneous "AHA!" moment over spilled cereal. What if they combined Mom's mental health expertise with Son's ability to make anything into a game that kids actually want to play?
After three prototype workbooks, seventeen coffee stains, and one memorable incident involving a printer and a jelly sandwich, Mindful Munchkins was born!
Our first workbook sold exactly seven copies (all to relatives who felt obligated). But then something magical happened—kids started asking to do their "fun homework" first. Parents began sending us photos of peaceful bedtimes and fewer meltdowns. And here we are, 47 workbooks later, still arguing about whether dragons or dinosaurs make better mindfulness guides. (Spoiler: it's obviously dragons.)
With a master's in child psychology and the uncanny ability to find missing socks, Mom is our resident expert on what makes little minds tick. Before Mindful Munchkins, she spent 12 years working with children in clinical settings, where she discovered that worksheets don't have to be boring, and that stickers are basically therapy gold.
Mom can explain complex emotional concepts to 5-year-olds, remember everyone's food allergies, and somehow always knows when you haven't flossed. Her superpower is turning psychological research into activities so fun kids don't realize they're building life skills.
Fun fact: She once accidentally used her "therapist voice" at a car dealership and talked the salesman into reconsidering his career choices.
Former kid (technically still one at heart) and creative mastermind, Son brings the "would an actual child do this?" perspective that keeps our workbooks from becoming boring adult exercises dressed in primary colors.
With a background in graphic design and a childhood spent as Mom's unofficial therapy practice guinea pig, he knows exactly which fonts make kids laugh and which activities will be met with eye rolls. He's also our social media guru, because Mom still thinks TikTok is a breath mint.
Fun fact: He can draw a perfectly symmetrical heart in under 3 seconds and has an encyclopedic knowledge of cereal mascots throughout history.
We believe that mental health tools for kids should be as colorful and engaging as their favorite games. That skills like emotional regulation, mindfulness, and resilience can be taught through stories, characters, and activities that kids actually enjoy.
Each workbook is field-tested by our "Brutally Honest Panel" (neighborhood kids who have no problem telling us when something is "totally lame"). We promise to never use the phrase "just calm down" in any of our materials, and to always include at least one activity involving either slime or ice cream metaphors.
Most importantly, we believe that mental wellness should be accessible to all families, which is why we donate a workbook to children's hospitals and community centers for every 10 books sold. Because everyone deserves tools that help them understand the magnificent, sometimes messy landscape of their emotions.
